The Pointer Sisters have been singing and shaking it for over four decades. Throughout their career their changing image has defied categorization like no other all female group has ever done. Their substantial popularity is partly down to their energetic dancing and singing which has endeared them to every generation. Together they have received 3 Grammy Awards.
In 1974 the Pointer Sisters were invited to take part in a 3-day festival in celebration of black sports and entertainment in Kinshasa Zaire. The concert was part of the infamous Rumble in the Jungle title fight between the reigning champion George Foreman and Muhammad Ali. This phenomenal performance to an audience of 80,000 people was shot in 35mm on six cameras by director Leon Gast. (who won an Academy Award for When We Were Kings.) |
