Famed saxophonist Stan Getz once referred to Kenny Rankin as "the horn with a heart." Rankin's elegant tenor voice and gift for jazz, pop and Latin phrasing have made him a favorite of singers like Mel Torme, Al Jarreau, Tony Bennett and Carmen McRae. In this special concert recorded for the Jazz Channel in Washington, D.C., Rankin enthralls the discriminating audience with a performance of classic favorites.

Songs:
You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, When Sunny Gets Blue, Round Midnight, Love is Here to Stay, Sunday Kind of Love, Misty Roses, Blackbird, Birembau, More Than You Know, She's a Lady, In the Name of Love, Soft Guitar, Blame It on My Youth, Peaceful, Haven't We Met, While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

In this intimate performance recorded for the television series BET on Jazz, vocalist Kenny Rankin performs a program of classic standards in his passionate trademark style. Selections include "Haven't We Met," "When Sunny Gets Blue," "More Than You Know," "You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To," and 12 others.

Kenny Rankin

Active Decades: '60s, '70s, '80s, '90s and '00s
Genre: Vocal, Jazz
Styles: Adult Contemporary, Pop, Standards, Traditional Pop

A pop and standards singer during his long career, Kenny Rankin debuted in 1967 with his first album, Mind Dusters, which featured the soft rock hit "Peaceful." Over the course of the early '70s, Rankin slowly built up a following with a steady stream of records and performances that balanced originals, new songs, and standards. As the decade drew to a close, he began to return to his singer/songwriter roots, particularly on After the Roses, his 1980 debut for Atlantic Records. He continued to perform during the '80s, but he only recorded sporadically. In 1991, he recorded a pair of albums, Hiding in Myself and Because of You, for two separate labels. Three years later, he signed with Private Music and released Professional Dreamer, an album that found him concentrating on standards. That record was followed in 1997 by Here in My Heart, which had a Brazilian flavor. Throughout the rest of the '90s, Rankin focused on touring and, in 1999, he issued The Bottom Line Encore Collection, his first live recording in two decades.
