After ten years of recording and constantly touring Australia, new Zealand, Europe&the USA Mortification in June, July and August of 2001 embarked on what all bands dream about. Their first world tour. Taking in Australia, South Africa, Europe, USA, Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Brasil truly this was an adventure to be documented in stone.
This package contains three full length video clips plus all the excitment and craziness of life on the road touring the planet. No australian metal band has ever completed such an amazing trek. Mortification planted the flag all over the globe. Non stop energy, unexpected events, crazy fans and sheer power and determination is what you will witness! Brace yourself and try and keep up the pace.
An Australian extreme metal band? Whodathunkit! But in all seriousness, fans of the genre should be long familiar with Mortification, who have been headbanging away since 1990. However, it wasn't until 2001 that the group embarked on their first-ever world tour, which has been documented on the DVD, Conquer the World. Those expecting a professionally shot document of a Mortification show from beginning to end will be out of luck, as it's a documentary loaded with interviews and performance clips (of which frustratingly, there are few full-length performances; just tiny flashes). Also included are interviews, clips of the band sightseeing and clowning around, and most intriguing, a short clip of a Mortification "unplugged" performance! Also, you'll be able to hear the group being introduced on-stage at seemingly every bloody country they played in on the tour. Most of the live clips appear to have been taped on a hand-held recorder, while the sonics were recorded via the camera's mic (not via a soundboard); so in other words, don't expect The Song Remains the Same-type sonics. And for the Mortification fan who needs it all, you'll also find three promo videos (one of which is for the song "Metal Blessing," which gives the term "low-budget video" a whole new meaning) and four bonus tracks. ---Greg Prato, All Music Guide
Mortification
Active Decades: '90s and '00s Genre: GSPL Styles: Alternative Metal, Christian Metal, Christian Rock, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal
Mortification is considered by many to be the most extreme Christian band in existence. Formed in 1990 from the remains of a band called Lightforce, Mortification sought to provide a positive alternative to traditional death metal acts such as Carcass, Death and Obituary. On the strength of their self-titled 1990 debut, Mortification quickly gained a reputation in their native Australia for being one of the loudest and fastest bands around. Their 1992 follow-up, Scrolls of the Megilloth, garnered the band some attention from the heavy metal underground and contains some of the most frightening vocals ever recorded. Their later albums were more experimental, combining elements of punk, death and thrash metal; they include 1998's Triumph of Mercy and 2000's 10 Years Live, Not Dead. Bassist/vocalist Steve Rowe has handled most of the songwriting chores for group, and is the only remaining original member. ---Kirk Dombek, All Music Guide |
