The Folies Bergere, the most famous music hall in the world, opened in Paris in May 1869. The Folies Bergere was a vast pleasure palace dedicated to presentation of Grand Revue on the most splendid scale. Innumerable world famous stars have performed there from Charlie Chaplin, Maurice Chevalier, Barbette, Josephine Baker, Mata Hari, and Mistinquett. For many years, to perform there was considered by all artists a sacrosanct goal to achieve- the zenith of entertainment establishments.
It is fitting that the world's first professional touring bellydance troupe would choose the Folies Bergere as the obvious choice to film their first European tour show. Hence, the Folies Bergere can add another unique talent to its roster of performers having played there - the Bellydance Superstars and Desert Roses.
The Bellydance Superstars have set as their goal to elevate the beautiful and sensual art of bellydance to premier stages worldwide with a breathtaking visual show featuring the world's most talented bellydancer at the peak of their performing abilities. Flattering comparisons to Riverdance have been made, yet bellydance is more than a dance show. Bellydance is a lifestyle, a celebration of men's feminity - a calling. The music is as captivating and exhilarating as the show; it features some of the most respected names in Arab music, exciting East-West-hybrids merging modern and traditional music, as well as live percussion, featuring the Wassan Pharoon: master drummer, Issam Houshan.
