The Rockpalast DVD will contain both Rockpalast-concerts of the band:
* 1-15. tracks: Zeche Bochum (October 29th, 1983) - 102 min.
* 16-27. tracks: Grugahalle Essen (Eurovision) (October 13th, 1984) - 80 min.

In their first club performances LEVEL 42 was a purely instrumental jazz-funk band, but one that quickly "found its voice"; essential ingredients for success were lyrics and singing. MARK KING (bass guitar / vocals) became front man for LEVEL 42, and in this double role comparable to only a few other vocalist / bassists like Sting or Jack Bruce. It was only logical, then, that LEVEL 42 accompanied "The Police" on a tour of Germany in 1981. The compositions, and even more the live concerts, are, as ever, strongly defined by the elaborate ensemble playing.
After their first Top 40 Hit "Love Games" (1981), all signs were pointing upwards. The album "World Machine" (1985), buoyed up by the waves of the hit single "Hot Water" (1984), sailed in at number 3 in the U.K. and in the USA at number 18. More than 10 million copies of the LP sold worldwide.
By the beginning of the 1980's, Rockpalast had long since moved out of its smaller Studio L and had now shifted recording up-and-coming bands to German rock-clubs; LEVEL 42 gave their Rockpalast debut at the "Zeche Bochum". One year later they were one of a party in the Grugahalle Essen at the 14th Rockpalast Eurovision Night: A guaranteed broadcast of the complete concert! All over Europe! The DVD includes both Rockpalast concerts by LEVEL 42 in full. |
