The Musical Birthplace of the Beatles in America: The Documentary

A BEATLE IN BENTON is a documentary of the first American visit by the Beatles' lead guitarist George Harrison. While John Lennon and his wife Cynthia went to Paris, and Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney went to Greece, George accompanied by his brother Peter, arrived in Benton, Illinois in September 1963. George and Peter were in Benton, Illinois to visit their sister, Louise Harrison-Caldwell. Louise had moved to Benton in March, 1963. During this time Louise would often visit local radio stations "plugging her brother George's band called the Beatles". This video contains exclusive interviews!

GABE McCARTY, AN ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE FOUR VESTS:
Hear Gabe reminisce about his days spent with George Harrison. Gabe discusses George playing guitar at the VFW hall in Eldorade, Illinois, and his car rides with George and their friendship which developed. Gabe meets the Fab Four in Chicago, 1964.

KENNY WELSH, ORIGINAL MEMBER OF THE FOUR VESTS:
Kenny discusses George playing famous guitar licks of a future Beatles' song called "Day Tripper". Kenny remembers George's request to play one of his favorite country standard songs.

MARCIA RAUBACK the first American disc jockey to play a Beatles song in the United States in the summer of 1963. (Marcia's junior year of high school) she metia young lad from Liverpool, England. His name was George Harrison. Marcia had worked for her father's radio station, WFRX, in West Frankfort, Illinois. Marcia interviewed George in the summer of 1963 on WFRX. Marcia got a sneak preview of the Beatles' music, and also a Beatles photograph signed by George Harrison! Thanks to Marcia, Illinois became the birth place of the Beatles music in North America.

A BEATLE IN BENTON is the story of one man's determination to save a historic part of musical history. Bob Bartel, an avid Beatles fan and collector, helped save the Harrison-Caldwell home from destruction by taking on the state of Illinois and gathering Beatle fans from all over the world to help him in his fight to save the home. Bob has now been christened the "Christopher Columbus" of Beatle discoveries.
