James Fleres may be the best 17 year old crooner you have ever heard. Under the tutelage of pianist/arranger Ricardo Scales, he is poised to make his mark with fresh interpretations of vocal classics and one original co-written by James and Ricardo.
I am 17 years old. My music is for everyone. That's what I like best about it. I like all kinds of music. I love the old stuff. There was some amazing music recorded that most of my peers are unaware of. I want to bring "old school" back with a "new school" feel. I want to pull from all that music and blend it with my style to create a new kind of music. This album is my flavor of all those styles. I have a large group of people who have given so much of themselves and graciously have taught me what they have learned over many years. My mentors, especially world renowned pianist Ricardo Scales, have been touched by some of the best of the best in the music industry. They in turn are teaching and training me. That is quite an army of people behind me. That is also quite a responsibility. I take that responsibility very seriously. I know that I have an opportunity to bring all this knowledge, culture and love to the world.
I hope my music conveys the image of a person who is full of life and ready to put a whole new twist on what people my age are "supposed" to look like, sound like, and act like. I love jeans but I love beautiful Italian suits too. I love jazz but I also love some rock. I love to perform at night with the Band but I also love to play street basketball in the day with my friends. I want to break the mold that confines people my age to a certain kind of image. I hope to bring forth a new sound for a new time.
Enjoy this debut album featuring instrumentals by world renowned pianist Ricardo Scales, Horns by Roussell White and percussion by Juan Escovedo. Support vocals by Dorothy Morrison (Oh Happy Day) and Wally Roker (The Heartbeats).
