Swinging reworkings of some of the lesser known songs of America's greatest composer, Duke Ellington. Performed by the famous New York Modern Swing Band, The Yalloppin' Hounds, arranged and produced by Joey "G-Clef" Cavaseno, this is possibly their finest recording available yet! There is even a very creepy contemporary-styled production/arrangement of I'm Beginning To See The Light,which is spun this time around, to speak about the horrible 9/11 tragedy,and the looming possibilities of war, instead of its original meaning in 1944, which was about the hopefulness of W.W.II ending. Truly a dark reasessment here... Other titles include the never berore recorded "Spakin' Brand New Doll" and almost never recorded "The Piano Player", done in living, swinging form, sounding as fresh today as they would have had they been recorded way back in the classic jazz era. This album also features the return of Brian "Lord" Slegde, the band's original trumpetist, as well as speci! al guest, J. Walter Hawkes, of Jet Set Six fame. There are also plenty of vocals by Peter Hartmann, Melissa Kate Miller, G-Clef himself, and even G-Clef and da Houndz' songstress Jakineko Loversidge.

Taking their name from a longtime joke among the musicians of Illinois Jacquet & Big Band, the pop-friendly Yalloppin' Hounds have been one of the most industrious acts in the New York swing scene. Molding hip-hop sensibilities with classic swing beats, this seven-piece group is led by its founding members: bandleader and saxophonist Joey "G-Clef" Cavaseno and ex-Toasters trumpeter Brian "the Sledge." Cavaseno and the Sledge are veterans of Illinois Jacquet & Big Band and have been playing in bands and experimenting with swing music since childhood. Echoes of Cab Calloway and Louis Armstrong are evident. Yalloppin' Hounds' debut release, Ghetto Swing Extreme, was released in summer 2000.
