Louis Armstrong Billie Holiday Bing Crosby Ella Fitzgerald Gary Crosby The Mills Brothers
Louis Armstrong had a long and productive stay with Decca Records, tracking under that imprint from 1935 until 1954. This collection pulls together duets Armstrong did with other Decca artists during that time, and buyers should be aware that this disc features very little horn playing, concentrating instead on his vocal work. The list of duet partners is impressive, including Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, Billie Holiday, and Louis Jordan, but the six songs he does with the Mills Brothers, which are wonderfully sequenced all in a row, are the highlight of the set. The easy flowing charm of these numbers is as marvelous as a deep summer breeze, particularly the version here of Irving Berlin's "My Walking Stick." ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide |
