The internationally acclaimed percussionists Stomp explore diverse music, rhythm and dance from around the world. Viewers are taken on a tour that covers five continents and nine countries to experience the different musical wonders on offer. From New York to South America, Africa and Europe, highlights include gum boot dancers, flamenco dancers, djembe players and Japanese taiko drummers.
The theatrical extravaganza of STOMP has become a worldwide success. Now creators Luke Cresswell and Steve McNicholas have created 'STOMP Present Rhythms Of The World'; a brand-new journey of discovery about rhythm and dance from around the world guided by STOMP - the internationally acclaimed percussionists. Liberation Entertainment will release this toe-tapping, finger-drumming DVD for the first time in the U.K. on 20th November 2006. Guaranteed to entertain and inspire, the infectious beats will bring living rooms alive this Christmas in what promises to be an international master-class in music and dance. From New York City to the American South West, Africa, South America and Europe this is a vibrant hand clapping, foot stomping experience. Meet the gumboot dancers, Japanese Taiko drummers, Djembe players, bell ringers, scuba divers, Flamenco dancers, marching bands and street performers in this breathtaking global voyage of discovery. The message behind STOMP is a simple one - rhythm. STOMP has no words, everyone can understand it. It has little or no melody in the traditional sense, so it doesn't matter if your taste is Jazz, Classical, Dance or Pop. STOMP is about rhythm, which is common to all cultures. It's about a group of people, with strong personalities, working together using simple building blocks to create something everyone has and everyone can identity with.
"I started by hanging a single drum on a strap around my neck, but I also started to improvise on the objects around us: bicycles, lampposts, policemen's helmets..." - Luke Cresswell, Director. Currently there are several STOMP companies performing all over the world, and one of the most successful is based in the U.K. and currently playing to sell out audiences at the Vaudeville Theatre in London’s West End. In 1994, STOMP won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Choreography, and it still holds the title for the fastest selling show ever to play out of the Royal Festival Hall. Now into its 14th year of touring world-wide, STOMP is a truly remarkable theatrical phenomenon, having played over 10,000 performances to over 10 million people in 42 countries across 5 continents.
