Very few individual musicians have had such a lasting effect on the traditions of jazz - especially the music of Chicago - as Eddie Condon. But his place in the "Jazz Hall of Fame" should not only be based on his pioneering activities as a working musician and bandleader, club owner and composer. His initiative in putting together some of the earliest multi-racial recording sessions, subsequently making a large contribution to breaking down race barriers in the United States, was also of importance for the development of jazz - and popular music in general. |
