Jazz
The Byzantines are a newly formed band comprising five of the country's most creative young Classic Jazz musicians. The band's repertoire consists of original songs - mostly written by Nick Gill (piano). It has come about largely because of the enthusiasm for these songs expressed by the mercurial James Evans (undoubtedly the UK's most creative jazz clarinetist). Providing some of the vocal refrains to the songs are the delightful Debbie Arthurs (vocalist and percussionist with The Charleston Chasers) and the prodigious Jake Gill (guitar), still only 18 years of age. String and Brass Bass are provided by the ever-tasteful Malcolm Sked . This band represents a serious move to produce entirely new song material in the rich tradition of Classic Jazz with elements of Classical and Folk music to be found in the colourful mix. |
