One of the finest Jazz trumpeters the UK has ever produced. This is a collection of rare items some previously unreleased. It features Jazz legend, Albert Nicholas, Blues and Gospel singer, Brother Jogn Sellers, Al's longtime musical partner, Sandy Brown, the bands of Humphrey Lyttelton, Stan Greig and Jogn Picard's Angels.
We warmly welcome this 2008 release of Al Fairweather's music to our JazzByMail web site! Al maintained a passionate interest in jazz right up until his death in 1993. He wrote and arranged almost every day of his retired life. He contributed to dozens of arrangements to the Pye and Columbia recordings by Sandy Brown and himself. He also wrote over a dozen of the London Big Band's most popular numbers and did all the best charts n the Groove Juice book. He was a musician's musician. We are most pleased to present this double CD recording for your listening pleasure!

Al FairweatherAl Fairweather (June 12, 1927 - 1993) was a British jazz musician, born in Edinburgh, Scotland.Educated at the city''s Royal High School, Fairweather completed his National Service in 1949, serving in Egypt.In 1952 along with Sandy Brown and Stan Greig he went south to London recorded a number of sides for Esquire Recordsas the Sandy Brown and later Fairweather-Brown All Stars.When Brown went back to Scotland to complete his architecture studies, Fairweather joined the Cy Laurie Jazz Band. His powerful, Louis Armstrong-inspired lead was a perfect foil for Laurie''s Johnny Dodds approach.Following a second career as a teacher in Harrow, London, Fairweather returned to Edinburgh in 1987. |
