Jazz
Bill Smith (tr, hm, vc) Brian "Sam" Ellis (trom, pn) Rod Chambers (cl, al. sax) Louis Lince (bj, gu) Tony Pollit (bs) John Meehan (dr)
One of the most popular bands on the club and festival circuit at the moment. Their 6th CD for LAKE sees them with three new members, but essentially the 'Savs' sound has not changed. Piano, harmonica, alto saxophone, and electric guitar all feature on this CD whilst the band's strong, driving style remains firm. This CD shows the band in all its guises - it represents the band moving on and responding to change, yet it remains very much, "The Savannah".
The Savannah Jazz Band
The Savannah Jazz Band must be one of the busiest and most popular bands playing solid, driving New Orleans style jazz in the U.K. They have been delighting fans from all over Europe, the U.S.A. and New Zealand since being formed in 1978 by the late Terry Mellor. They play to packed audiences every Thursday at the Station Tavern in Huddersfield, where they have been resident since 1978. In recent years they have become firm favourites at the 100 Club and the Barbican Centre in London, as well as appearing at jazz festivals at Buxon, Cliftonville, Blackpool, Keswick, Dumfries and the Isle of Bute. 1992 saw them touring Holland. |
