The tracks on this album come from an assortment of sessions to be found on the old Pye Nixa and Polygon labels. They include the Fawkes-Turner Quintet as well as the very first recordings by the Bruce Turner Jump Band. Off and on, with various line-ups, the Jump Band came and went between 1957 and 1966. Its recordings are rare. Bruce was not good leader of men and certainly not cut to be a band leader, but, despite its ups and downs, his Jump Bands did find time to play some excellent music. The four Jump Band sides formed an Ep called, rather aptly, "The Controversial Bruce Turner".
