RAY ANTHONY - 3 CDS, PLUS BONUS DVD! In the years leading up to WWII, swing was king. Band leaders such as Artie Shaw, Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller were stars, playing to enthusiastic crowds and captivating America with their brand of jazz. In 1940, at the age of 18, a young trumpet player named Ray Anthony joined the Glenn Miller Band. Thus began a career that would span more than six decades and make Ray one of the most beloved and influential musicians of his, or any other time. Ray led his own band in the Navy during the war, later forming the extremely popular Ray Anthony Orchestra. Ray signed with Capitol Records; his multiple recordings include The Bunny Hop, Hokey Pokey, and hits from the popular 1950's television shows, Dragnet and Peter Gunn. Ray appeared in several films, notably Daddy Long Legs and The Five Pennies, playing the part of his old friend Jimmy Dorsey. He also had his own show on television, The Ray Anthony Show. Often compared to Cary Grant, the handsome Ray Anthony was married to the glamorous Mamie Van Doren, appearing in several movies with her. Throughout a long and varied career, Ray Anthony has continued to play the music America loves and to make it available on his Aerospace label. Respected by musicians and adored by generations of fans, Ray Anthony's star shines brightly, just like his star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. This documentary DVD includes extensive interviews with Ray, documentary footage of Ray and his Orchestra, photos and memorabilia from Ray's private collection. It also includes a special feature, The Origins of Jazz. It is the perfect companion to the music of Mr. Ray Anthony. |
