A former member of Tommy Dorsey’s group, Jo Stafford also sang with The Pied Pipers, Johnny Mercer, Frankie Laine and Liberace but is perhaps better known as a solo artist. Whilst her chart career in the UK never got beyond four hits (including two Top Ten entries), in her homeland Jo was one of the major stars of the mid 1940s onwards, registering over 70 hits between 1944 and 1954. She is perhaps best known for 'You Belong To Me', a chart topper on both sides of the Atlantic in 1952, and also recorded with her husband, orchestra leader Paul Weston as Jonathan and Darlene Edwards. Jo also hosted her own television series during the 1950s and has since been honoured with three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, reflecting her contribution to recording, radio and television. |
