Saxophone players are not unusual to the world of music but when Hidden Beach discovered one whose influences have stemmed from his love of Hip Hop plus traditional jazz music, they gave Mike Phillips free reign to develop a unique approach which has resulted in 2 hit albums and his stylistic imprint featured on a multitude of top industry projects, including an ongoing tenure as the musical director for Prince! These developments all set the stage for the newest offering from Mike Philly, MP3 (Mike Phillips 3), to be released on July 27, 2010. Special guests on MP3 include Stevie Wonder, Marcus Miller, Norman Brown, Natalie Stewart aka "The Floacist" from the group Floetry, and more! Producers include J.R. Hutson, Jamie Hawkins, Keith Crouch, 310 Music, and Jamal McKoy.

"I know that my road and my path was different from most. I'm a high school grad who opted out of going to college. Coming out of high school, I was offered college scholarships to play both football and to play in the band. However, I chose to study at The University of Stevie Wonder and Prince and of all of the musicians throughout the years who have taken me under their wings allowing me to absorb and to learn."

Momentum has certainly been on Phillips' side as he gears up to release his third, and what he considers his best, studio project. Just recently, Mike has completed the ultimate trifecta having recorded on projects with Prince, Stevie Wonder, and on the forthcoming album by the late, great Michael Jackson!

When you put THIS MP3 (Mike Phillips 3) to your ears and listen, you're installing an operating system of a saxophonist that contains the elements of Bee Bop, Hip Hop, Soul, something smooth & sexy and instrumental music with swagger and style.

Mount Vernon, NY, native Mike Phillips became interested in music at a young age, moving through several different instruments before settling on the saxophone. By the age of 16, he had decided to play professionally. He made an impromptu New York debut at Wilson's nightclub in New York in 1993, and that led to a series of session and sideman jobs in jazz, R&B, and even rap. Eventually, he attracted the attention of Hidden Beach Recordings, which signed him and put him on the road in the summer of 2001 opening for Jill Scott. Phillips' debut album, You Have Reached Mike Phillips, was released by Hidden Beach in May 2002.
