Seventh Sense puts the emphasis squarely back on the art of heartfelt improvisation and storytelling. The idea of the recording was to approach a number of new unrehearsed tunes with a clean slate and to see what happened. Most the tracks are first takes and there is virtually no editing, giving the music a very natural joyous feeling.

Tim Lapthorn
Born in Newmarket 1976 and raised in Cambridge, Tim initially studied French and philosophy at Leeds University and then decided to change paths, completing the postgrad jazz diploma at Guildhall School of Music in 2000 where he studied with Simon Purcell, Nikki Iles and Pete Churchill. Since graduating Tim has lived and worked in London as a performer, composer and teacher. He leads his own trio with Arnie Somogyi and Stephen Keogh and also plays piano in groups led by, amongst others, singer Ian Shaw, bassist Arnie Somogyi (Ambulance featuring Eddie Henderson), saxophonist Frank Griffith and, BBC Jazz Award Nominee, singer Polly Gibbons. Tim's many influences include Charlie Parker, Bill Evans, Thelonious Monk and Stevie Wonder.
Arnie Somogyi
Probably the UK's most unusually named bass player Arnie Somogyi has worked with a lot of famous musicians - Joey Calderazzo, Eddie Henderson, Claire Martin, Bobby Hutcherson, Steve Grossman, James Moody - to name drop but a few. Most recently he's featured on Richard Ashcroft's latest CD "Keys to the World" and as part of a stellar line-up on Chris Botti's "To Love Again". He also has his own band "Ambulance' - "specialists in musical accidents and emergency". Before that he put together the eccentric, unwieldy and commercially challenging 10-piece band "Improvokation", which through its unique combination of jazz and European folk improvising traditions managed to alienate purist fans of both minority genres. However, it was probably the only band in the world to feature consecutive trombone and cimbalom solos - an accomplishment in itself. He also teaches at Birmingham Conservatoire and on various jazz summer schools. He has made two BBC Radio 4 programmes - Cool Roots - a musical journey back to trace his ancestral roots - and the critically acclaimed 'Package Peculiar', a travelogue of visits to Draculaland in Transylvania and Stalinworld in Lithuania.
Stephen Keogh
Stephen Keogh, born in Ireland. He followed his studies in Ireland with private lessons in London and New York. He played as percussionist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, contemporary music ensembles and many visiting jazz artists including Sonny Fortune, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Jimmy Witherspoon, Pat La Barbera, Louis Stewart and James Moody.A move to London in 1988 led to tours and recordings with many British and American jazz artists including Stan Tracey, Charles McPherson, Art Farmer, Jason Rebello, Jean Toussaint and Benny Carter.
Since moving to Barcelona in 1990, Stephen has worked all over the world with many great musicians including Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz, Harrold Land, Peter King Quartet, Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, Herb Ellis, Benny Golson and Steve Grossman. He is a member of the European Jazz Piano Trio led by Bill Charlap, Peter King Quartet and co-leads the Urban Jazz Quintet and Urban Jazz Ensemble.
Workshops/Clinics: Artistic director of Seminario de Jazz de Vilreal 2001 in Spain, artistic director of the Seminario de Jazz y Otros Musicas de Benicasim 2003, artistic programmer/consultant of the Avui Jazz Concert Series, Spain, drum/percussion tutor at the Louis Stewart Jazz School West Clare in Ireland 1999 - 2003, principal tutor at the Percussion Summer School Leeds University 2004.
