"Domador de huellas = Tamer of footprints The tamer with his know-how turns the wild animal docile, however the reference that touches the name of this work is not the animal but its footprint. A footprint is the remaining mark. It's a memory that is saved and coded. It's necessary to touch it, get with it, work it, so it can throw us just a little of its truth. Klein has touched Cuchi's footprint, he's interpreted it; he has decoded it to re-codify it under it under the rhythms of his pen, finding the intimate code that he gives us here. Cuchi was a tender footprint tamer, I imagine him happy, he would know how to listen to what is cooking here."
Guillermo Klein new album "Domador de Huellas" is based on the music/songs of Gustavo "Cuchi" Leguizamon. "Cuchi" was a musician, composer, pianist, poet, lawyer, and professor (history, literature, and philosophy). He wrote zambas, chacareras and vidalas (classical repertoire of Argentinean folk roots).

Active Decades: '90s and '00s Born: 1970 in Buenos Aires, Argentina Genre: Jazz Styles: Modern Creative, World Fusion, Latin Jazz, Post-Bop
Guillermo Klein moved from his native Argentina to Boston in 1990 to study at Berklee College of Music. In 1993 he moved to New York where he formed an inventive 17-piece big band. The band played Sunday nights at the underground club Smalls throughout 1995. Several years later, a newer, larger club called the Jazz Standard gave the Guillermo Klein Big Band a regular Monday night gig for several months. Klein also performed and recorded with a ten-piece ensemble called los Guachos, which featured the likes of Bill McHenry, Chris Cheek, Ben Monder, and others. The band's debut on Candid Records was never released, but Sunnyside picked up Los Guachos Vol. 2 for release in 1999. Unfortunately for the New York jazz scene, Klein moved back to Argentina in September of 2000. ---David R. Adler, All Music Guide |
