Jasper Hoiby - double bass Ivo Neame - piano Anton Eger - drums
Phronesis have the ability to excite, to inspire and move people in a way that few bands are able to do. In the last few years, since the release of their second album Green Delay, Phronesis, led by bassist Jasper Hoiby, have captured the hearts and minds of British audiences and have developed a fierce reputation as one of the most formidable and remarkable pianos trios in the UK. Phronesis release their third album Alive, their first on Edition, which looks set to firmly escalate them to the fore-front of the European contemporary jazz scene.
'Behind the Aristotlean name lurks an inspired piano trio led by the Danish double-bassist Jasper Hoiby. Drums and bass are to the fore on this beautifully recorded second album, with intricate grooves underpinning Ivo Neame's lyrical piano. Has many of the qualities that made EST such a hit' - The Times ****
'...the bass sounds rich in both melody and sensuous, dancey rhythms on some very fine original themes inspired by Mediterranean, Latin and East European folk music. Fans of Avishai Cohen or EST would do well to check this one out'. - Jazzwise
'Hoiby's instrumental abilities easily match his compositional flair' - John L Walters - The Guardian
'I know I'm going to keep listening' - Avishai Cohen |
