The fabulous Pizzarelli Boys--Bucky, John, and Martin--strike again with their latest CD!
Inspired by their friend Paul Hanly's eclectic love of all kinds of music, the Pizzarellis perform a special request list with gusto. A beautifully cohesive musical conversation between inspired musicians, Desert Island Dreamers is sure to capture the listener's imagination.
This infectiously energetic group is rounded out by Aaron Weinstein on violin, Larry Fuller on piano, Tony Tedesco on drums, and Jessica Molaskey on vocals.
The Pizzarelli Boys consist of the family patriarch, Bucky, on acoustic guitar, sons John (electric guitar) and Martin (bass), pianist Larry Fuller, drummer Tony Tedesco, young up-and-coming violinist Aaron Weinstein. with vocalist Jessica Molaskey (a talented Broadway actress and John's wife) added on some tracks. Executive producer Paul Hanley (actually, John and Martin are also listed as executive producers) chose the songs from among his personal favorites, including several that are rarely, if ever, heard in a jazz setting. Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" (which achieved cult status among baby boomer rock fans) would seem like one of the most unpromising choices, yet the group succeeds by focusing their jam on the first half of the song and barely touching on the latter half. Gayle Caldwell (who was a member of the 1960s folk group The New Christy Minstrels) penned the cheery ballad "Cycles," which features strong solos by John and Weinstein. The bulk of this release is devoted to standards that Bucky likely could have played in his sleep, including a lightly swinging "By Myself," a deliberate lyrical "Over the Rainbow" and a heartfelt "Danny Boy," the latter featuring the talented vocalist Jessica Molaskey (John's wife, who works with him on a frequent basis). ~ Ken Dryden, Rovi

The Pizzarelli Boys are a straight-ahead jazz trio featuring journeyman jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli and his sons guitarist John Pizzarelli and bassist Martin Pizzarelli. Bucky has been an active and vital presence on the New York City jazz scene since the '50s, while both John and Martin came into their own during the late '80s and early '90s. They have released three albums, including 2007's Sunday at Pete's, 2009's Pizzarelli Party (released under the name the Pizzarellis), and 2010's Desert Island Dreamers.
