The last chapter in my percussion improvisation saga came from the area of contemporary composition.
Moving between the contemporary music repertoire (Cage, Bussotti, Harrison and others) and my own
improvised and composed music, I found the way to blend my high energy drumming with a more meditative
research on sound and structure, using more melodic instruments like vibraphone and glockenspiel.
The compositions/improvisation that you can hear here have been taken on tour to major contemporary
music festivals and, ultimately, recorded in my studio for a possible LP that never came out.
That exciting period of new music (from'84 to '89) got me active active not only in Italy but also all over
Europe: in England, Austria, Germany (West and East), Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, France, Portugal,
former Yugoslavia and Holland.
Here you’ll also find a live track recorded in Arhus, Denmark; I was invited there by percussionist Steve Hubback
for a solo concert and a wild group performance where a cement mixer (!!) was used as interlude to the solos
and collective plays.
VOICES OF DEPARTED ANGELS is an early (’73-’75) series of little sound sketches here finally organized in
musical composition.
