The first ever DVD to feature one of the classic 1980's pop bands - Blancmange. Blancmange formed in London, England, in the late '70s and received immediate recognition when they sent the song 'Sad Day' to DJ Stevo, who added it to a compilation LP of then-unsigned new wave groups including future icons like Depeche Mode and Soft Cell. Signed to London Records, Blancmange released their first two singles, 'God's Kitchen' and 'Feel Me', in 1982. Both records were hits in the U.K. Later that year, Blancmange's debut album, Happy Families, sold well on the strength of their first Top Ten hit, 'Living on the Ceiling', which peaked at #7 in Britain, as well as 'Blind Vision' and 'Don't Tell Me', both reaching the Top Ten in England. Blancmange's 1984 LP, Mange Tout, further established the group as one of Britain's most popular electronic artists. Live At The Hacienda features a classic 1982 concert from the band at Manchester's world famous Hacienda Club. Among the tracks featured are UK chart hits 'God's Kitchen / I've Seen The Word', 'Living On The Ceiling', 'Waves' and 'Feel Me'.
Experimental electro-pop duo Blancmange, comprised of Neil Arthur and Steven Luscombe, was formed in Leeds in 1979. This 1982 concert at Manchester's infamous Hacienda Club took place at the height of their success. The influential compilation 'Some Bizarre' had just been released, which gave Blancmange their first major appearance alongside such heavyweights as Soft Cell and Depeche Mode. The group's first hit, a cover of the Talking Heads song 'Feel Me,' is included in the song list, along with U.K. chart hits 'Living On The Ceiling' and 'Waves.' The excitement of the early days of electro-pop is palpable in this show, which features a seminal group at the top of their game.
Recorded at their early-80s height, the post-punk band Blancmange perform several of their songs in this concert release from the UK imprint Cherry Red Films. Blancmange: Live at the Hacienda includes "I've Seen the Word," "Living on the Ceiling," "God's Kitchen," and more. ---Matthew Tobey, Rovi |
