One of the most popular Jamaican dancehall recording stars, Shabba Ranks was one of the first West Indian singer / toaster's to gain worldwide recognition for his 'slack' lyrical expressions and content, and his gravel toned, rough-riding voice became instantly recognisible.
He broke through internationally in the late 1980's, at the same time as Maxi Priest, Michael Rose and Johnny Gill - signing to Epic in 1991.
Shabba enjoyed amazing success in the early 1990's around the world - recording hit singles with Scritti Politti, Maxi Priest and Johnny Gill, and becoming the first dancehall artist to win a Grammy award in the US.
He went on to enjoy twelve hits singles (including five top twenty placings) and three hit albums in the UK between 1991 and 1993. In the US he enjoyed major success on the Billboard R&B chart during the same period - notching up eleven hit singles and six hit albums (including a number one).
Shabba Ranks' greatest Jamaican hits performed before live audiences in Japan and Jamaica, featuring "Trailerload A Girls," "Housecall," "Mr. Loverman," and more. ---Rovi |
