Sade's Soldier of Love album was a major success; in the U.S. alone, it went gold during its first week. Hailed as "the best concert of the year" by the Baltimore Sun, Sade will release their live DVD/CD for, "Bring Me Home - Live 2011" on May 22nd. In 2011, after a 10 year hiatus, Sade returned to the U.S. for a 54-date tour in support of the platinum selling album Soldier Of Love (Epic Records), which became one of last year's top10 grossing tours. The tour, directed by the renowned Sophie Muller, will now be available on DVD/CD, featuring 22 of Sade's biggest hits performed live on the visually stunning stage which was nominated by Pollstar for "Most Creative Stage Production" and "2011 Major Tour of the Year Award." Sade also grants fans a rare, all access look behind-the-scenes with a 20-minute documentary film shot by Sophie Muller, as well as a technical documentary by Stuart Matthewman, and outtakes from the crew. Fans and critics alike have hailed the show for its intimate vibe, eye-catching production, and dazzling imagery, making this DVD/CD a 'must-have' for the ultimate Sade fan. Sade has enjoyed phenomenal success both internationally and stateside throughout the span of their 25-year career. Since the release of their debut album, Diamond Life in 1984, the band have seen all five of their studio albums land in the Top 10 on Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart selling a total of more than 50 million albums worldwide to date. They've been nominated for American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and have won three Grammy Awards - first in 1986 for Best New Artist, then in 1994 for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group for "No Ordinary Love", and again in 2002 for Best Pop Vocal Album with Lovers Rock. VIDEO:
Sophie Muller has done an excellent job in bring this Bring Me Home Live by the group Sade, filmed in 2011, to high definition. It comes in 1080i 1.77:1 encode. The most outstanding aspect is the colour, especially red...like the red curtains that suddenly separates into 3 pieces and pulled up to the ceiling, the sudden drop of red curtains as background and of course, the red on Sade Adu's lips. The blacks are inky. The skin tone is natural. The details could be sharper. (4/5)
AUDIO:
Although it is not stated on the disc, the audio does come in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, plus Dolby Digital. The sound is very balanced, with Sade Adu's voice clearly and distinctly, serenading to you, and also with a great band of saxophone, guitar, bass and drums. As a whole, the jazzy sound is very soothing and entertaining. (4.5/5)
CONCERT:
It is the concert itself that truly shines. Sade Adu wrote in the beautiful booklet: "I was reluctant to chronicle our time on the road. Sometimes great moments are best captured in a memory." How true, especially true for those aging artists way past their prime still touring. But for the majority of us who have not had the pleasure of the spiritual experience live in Sade's concert, this disc is truly second best. The songs are well chosen.

Sade Adu was still at her best. She sang the first few songs wearing a 5-7" high heel!! She later reverted back to more comfortable shoes. The band is also outstanding, very tight and each gives its unique sound...saxophone (Stuart Matthewman), percussion (Karl Vanden Bossche), bass (Paul S. Denman), keyboards (Andrew Hale) and drums (Pete Lewinson). The design of the concert was also truly outstanding, making full use of curtains for video. The video screen was almost 3-dimensional. The lighting also fit into the mood of each song. A truly enjoyable concert. (5/5)
FINAL THOUGHT:
Sade has been with us since 1984. After quite a few years of absence, their last album Soldier of Love debut at Number 1 on Billboard 200 in 2010. They were awarded the Best New Artist Grammy 1985. Sade Helen Folasade Adu, born in Nigeria, Africa, but raised in Clacton-on-Sea, England, is the real star of the group. Watching this sultry artist purring out those beautiful notes like a "smooth operator" is a very ecstatic and memorable experience. The entire concert is very enjoyable and is very highly recommended. |
