| Voice of the Beehive were an intriguing Anglo / American Pop combo from the late eighties. Fronted by the sisters Melissa and Tracey Bryn, the band blended sixties Pop values with contemporary attitude to produce hugely appealing music, smart lyrical barbs lurking behind a glossy production sheen. Hit singles such as Don’t Call Me Baby and I Say Nothing sound as fresh now as they did twenty-five years ago. This performance comes from a show at London’s Alexandra Palace in 1990, where they opened for Squeeze and headliners The Kinks (legendarily at the insistence of Ray Davies himself). The British contingent of the band were Martin Brett (bass guitar), Mike Jones (guitar), and drummer Daniel ‘Woody’ Woodgate, who still fills the same role with Madness. |
