What makes a superstar? It may not be having a perfectly in tune, beautifully modulated voice but rather having a unique voice that is instantly recognisable, and that's where Johnny Cash really stood out from the crowd. In the early 1960s the LP was a newish concept, and Columbia wanted Johnny Cash to record some thematic albums, which was music to his ears. He started with an album of hymns and then one of train songs. In 1962 he paid homage to the working man with the fabulous 'Blood, Sweat and Tears'. It was recorded in July and August of 1962 at Columbia’s Studio A in Nashville, and released in December that year. It was Johnny Cash’s fifteenth album – and hailed as his best to date. |
