What do we have here? 2019 and a vinyl-only release? Well, with vinyl supposedly being more popular than it has been in ages I suppose it makes some kind of sense. And it makes a change from an endless array of CDs rehashing the same content over and over.
What we have is a 2-LP collection spanning Mott's most commercially-successful period (1972-74). All the singles are here (including Roll Away The Stone), together with some choice LP cuts.
The two discs themselves are housed in replica LP sleeves - one All The Young Dudes, the other replicating the Mott and Hoople sleeves There are also decent enough sleeve notes by Mott/Hunter biographer Campbell Devine.
OK, there's nothing new here, and the die-hard fan will have everything already. But for the casual music fan this is a good introduction to Mott.
My only real criticism (I've docked a star for it) is the main LP sleeve - Mott were a band, not just Ian Hunter.
I understand that Sainsbury's (in the UK) have a limited-edition version on orange vinyl (it being their corporate colour). So there is something rare available after all. And I understand in Germany there is a pink vinyl edition. |
