The Residents initially wrote the three songs featured on this single for three different projects; Picnic was written with Snakefinger for his debut album Chewing Hides The Sound, Loser, was written as the B-Side to Satisfaction in 1976 and God's Magic Finger was for their 1998 album Wormwood. The the mash-up of Picnic and Loser for The Residents' Wonder of Weird tour in 2013.
The two tracks selected are 2/3 of the songs that were cut from the In Between Dreams setlist following the initial shows at the Blue Note Club. The third is The Man In The Dark Sedan.
The single was originally sold with some copies of In Between Dreams Live in 2020, but was later released individually in May in a limited quantity of 500.
