This edition presents, for the first time ever on CD, the complete original 1959 album Oscar Peterson Plays The Richard Rodgers Songbook (Verve MG V6-2057), featuring the Oscar Peterson trio with Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen. For this extended edition, we have added various Richard Rodgers compositions recorded by the Peterson trio with Brown and Barney Kessel on guitar. Taped during 1952-1953, these recordings mark Peterson's first attempt at a Richard Rodgers Song Book. Most of them were first issued on the LP Oscar Peterson play Richard Rodgers (Clef MGC 624), which appears here in its entirety along with further isolated recordings of Rodgers' tunes. |
