Released on 25th September 1976, the album featured less of the doomy, ominous sound of previous efforts, and incorporated more synthesisers and up-tempo rock songs. Technical Ecstasy failed to reach the top 50 in the U.S., and was the band’s second consecutive release not to achieve platinum status, although it was later certified gold.
Touring in support of the new release began in October 1976, kicking off in the U.S. with openers Boston and Ted Nugent. AC/DC supported the group in Europe. On December 12th, the band performed at Syracuse, NY’s War Memorial Arena, where they put on what is still considered among the finest gigs of the tour. Playing a selection of cuts from their latest release alongside a number of band classics, this show remains previously unreleased, but is now available on this new 2LP for the first time. |
