This quintessential LP edition includes one of Walker’s finest albums, the sensational Singing the Blues, which was originally released by Imperial Records in 1960, and has been long unavailable on vinyl.
The album is a terrific collection of 12 tunes from the wildly influential blues legend. All of them were sides previously issued in 7” format, between 1950 and 1954, also for the Imperial label. T-Bone Walker always stayed true to his vision, and the proof was in the grooves: “Glamour Girl,” “The Hustle,” and “Bye, Bye Baby.” Other highlights include “Love Is Just a Gamble,” “Alimony Blues” and the swinging “Teen Age Baby,” among others.
In addition to the original album, this edition also includes 2 bonus tracks from the same period: “Pony Tail,” and the great “Strollin’ with Bones” – an up-tempo 12-bar jump-blues that begins with T-Bone’s spikey, uptown electric blues licks sandwiched between a swinging two-bar, unison horn-section figure in call-andresponse fashion.
All of these songs give a solid and revealing portrait of T-Bone Walker’s versatility as well as his rightful place in the blues pantheon.
