Recorded Live in the Berlin Philharmonie, 2006
Including an exclusive 52-minute documentary with Kent Nagano, produced by Bernhard Fleischer
Running time: 33 mins (concert) + 52 mins (documentary)
This disc marks the start of a new Kent Nagano series on Arthaus, all of which include concert recordings, interview sequences, rehearsal footage and animated sequences.
Mozart's last symphony represents the culmination of the classical symphony prior to Beethoven, a synthesis of classical and baroque compositional techniques. The Jupiter Symphony is a work of Olympian weight, in which Mozart looks back into musical history - and in so doing paves the way for the future.
For Kent Nagano the Jupiter Symphony counts as a "classical masterpiece" because of the way it keeps opening up new perspectives: "Together with the other two great symphonies of his late career, the Jupiter forms the culmination of Mozart's extraordinary oeuvre - indeed of the entire era that we refer to as 'classical music'". |
