Another in VAI's series devoted to the art of Russian pianist Emil Gilels. This fifth volume features Gilels in performances of two cornerstones of the piano literature: Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor and Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor. In addition, Gilels plays Schumann’s solo piano work "Arabesque" as an encore. These live performances (1966 / 1976) are with the USSR State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Vladimir Verbitsky.
