Matthews first gained fame as a member of folk legends Fairport Convention, where he shared lead vocal duties with Sandy Denny. He remained with Fairport for two albums, including the folk-rock classic What We Did on Our Holidays (considered by many to be the bands best work), before leaving during the recording of 1969's Unhalfbricking due to creative differences. I Cant Fade Away features a full show from Matthews and his band at Londons famous Marquee club in 1984.
