Jazz / West Coast Jazz; Cool; Vocal Jazz
British EMI released this collection of Chet Baker vocals, a simple repackaging of the 1989 American compilation The Best of Chet Baker Sings. Despite the duplication, it's easily the best document of the vocal side of Baker, as bewitching and endearing a technically ungifted jazz singer as ever lived. The recording dates are quite narrow (1953-1956), but that's when he recorded nearly all of his best titles: "My Funny Valentine," "But Not for Me," "Time After Time," and "Let's Get Lost." ---John Bush, allmusic |
