Jazz / Blues
This is Willie Pooch's Funk-n-Blues - real, hip blues sung from the heart! Born in Mississippi in 1936, Willie Pooch started his singing career in church. At the tender age of eight, he performed with two gospel groups - The Spirit of Memphis Quartet and the Gospel Travelers. At fourteen, Pooch and his family moved to Chicago. Under the tutelage of the great Luther Allison, Pooch began his career as a blues singer, working with Elmore James, Freddie King, and more. Quickly becoming an in-demand producer, Tony Monaco's B3 wizardry is a mainstay on the jazz scene. Hot on the heels of the creation of Chicken Coup Records and Monaco's Top 5 jazz radio release East to West comes this incredibly enjoyable funk-n-blues recording!
