Blue Note celebrate the season of love and romance with 'Each Day is Valentine's Day', a selection of the most passionate and intimate recordings by the legendary trumpeter and vocalist, Chet Baker. 'Each Day is Valentine's Day' features twelve top tunes from what is often described at Baker's heyday - his essential recordings for the Pacific Jazz label. They date from the Fifties, when jazz began to be polarized by coast - Los Angeles and New York - and when cool and hot jazz fought for supremacy. Chet Baker was somehow in both camps, but this album very much concentrates on his contribution to the cool. Baker offers very unique readings of music by some of America's finest songwriters. The Gershwins, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, Jerome Kern and the rest are all well served by Baker, whose repertoire on this album includes such enduring standards as 'Come Rain or Come Shine', 'Embraceable You', 'Moonlight in Vermont', 'How Long Has This Been Going On' and, of course, 'My Funny Valentine'. |
