Red Norvo is one of the giants of jazz history, single handedly transforming the xylophone from a vaudeville novelty into a virtuoso jazz instrument. In a career that spanned over 50 years he played with Benny Goodman, Woody Herman and Paul Whiteman and under his own name led some of the finest small groups in jazz history. This concert showcases Red's superb artistry on a medley of swinging classics. He is supported by a first class rhythm section including jazz guitarist Tal Farlow, and for the second half of the concert is joined by jazz vocalist Mavis Rivers.
