Originally released on the tiny Gatemouth label, this recording features the harmonically advanced pianist Jim McNeely (who, at this early stage, was influenced most by McCoy Tyner), Jon Burr or Mike Richmond on bass, drummer Billy Hart, and guest guitarist John Scofield performing six of McNeely's originals. The originals tend to be complex and dry, but the sidemen play the difficult music with relative ease.
