Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings are Canada's most successful songwriting partnership. In the Guess Who alone, they had 5 million-selling singles in a row and became rock legends in this country as the first group to go to #1 on the US singles chart.
Combined, the pair have sold over 50 million records; been presented with 150 Gold and Platinum plaques and composed ten #1 certified singles in more than 20 countries.
Earlier this year, Randy and Burton reaffirmed their status as icons by releasing the Gold-selling The Bachman Cummings Songbook album and embarking on the sold-out, 17-date First Time Around national tour. The Bachman Cummings Songbook marked the first time the pair's combined song catalogues were gathered together on one CD.
Bachman & Cummings launched their reunion with a CBC TV special that showcased Randy and Burton in front of a small audience; performing classic hits and sharing with the audience the stories behind the songs.
This performance is entitled Bachman & Cummings First Time Around . The DVD is not only a veritable greatest hits from Canada's greatest songwriting team, but also a peek inside their enduring 40-plus year relationship as friends and creative collaborators.
Bonus material on this package not available on the CBC broadcast includes extensive backstage and rehearsal footage and six tracks not included on the original airing - including "Hey You," "My Own Way To Rock" and the stirring Marvin Gaye cover "Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)."
The DVD also contains an exclusive 2006 version of the classic "American Woman" - a powerfully lyrical track which continues to withstand the test of time.
