This two-fer from Collectables features a pair of out of print Lou Donaldson LPs: Different Scene and Color as a Way of Life, originally issued on Cotillion Records in 1976 and 1977, respectively. These 16 tracks feature a combination of smooth jazz and soul-jazz on "Ebb Tide," "Night and Day," and Minnie Ripperton's "Loving You." This is mainly for fanatics; most casual listeners would be better served with one of Donaldson's classic Blue Note discs. ---Al Campbell, allmusic |
