Jazz
Eager was a charismatic figure, exuding a level of sophistication far beyond his years: quintessentially cool with impeccable taste. By the time he was 18, he was not only a player to be reckoned with but also catching the ears of his peers on The Street. In quick succession, Eager impressed Ben Webster and Coleman Hawkins, but the ultimate seal of approval came via his idol Lester Young. Pres claimed that of all "The Gray Boys" (his term for a legion of young white acolytes that included Stan Getz, Zoot Sims and many others), Eager impressed him the most: "If you're talking about Gray Boys, " offered Young, "Allen Eager can blow".
