Jazz
Recorded at Riverside Studio, Chicago, Illinois on March 8 & 9, 1999
EHE Kahil El'Zabar, drums/percussion; Joseph Bowie, trombone/percussion; Ernest 'Khabeer' Dawkins, tenor and alto sax/percussion
Additional personnel: Fareed Haque (acoustic & electric guitars, percussion)
Includes liner notes by Michael Jackson
The EHE has been about two horns and drums for twenty years but for this CD they are joined by special guest Fareed Haque who plays both acoustic and electric guitar. EHE's music reflects both African and African-American traditions with dance being so important, and that's not just physical dancing, it could be dancing in your head. Their first Delmark CD, The Continuum (Delmark 496), received a four star rating in Down Beat. Freedom Jazz Dance features five new original El'Zabar compositions and check out the slammin' title track written by Eddie Harris with whom Kahil toured Europe in '93 and talks about in the descriptive notes. |
