The Dutch jazz bassist Hein Van De Geyn originally met guitarist John Abercrombie in the 1980s when he spent thee years in the USA. On his return to Europe Van De Geyn worked with Lee Konitz, Chet Baker and Philip Catherine and many other musicians, including a long stint with Dee Dee Bridgwater. In 1994 created his group Baseline with drummer Joe LaBarbara and his old friend guitarist John Abercrombie and the group made three albums.
In 2006 Van De Geyn invited Abercrombie to guest with the current line-up which included Ed Verhoeff on guitar. They perform a set of thirteen originals (plus one standard "My funny Valentine" with the two guitarists playing off each other, each with their own distinctive sound but completely compatible. |
