Already in his late 70s at the time of the two 1985 concerts on this video, violinist Stephane Grappelli proves to still be in prime form. Assisted by guitarist Diz Disley and bassist Jack Sewing, Grappelli swings hard on a variety of veteran standards, including such old standbys as "Fascinating Rhythm," "Minor Swing," "Them There Eyes," and even Stevie Wonder's "You Are the Sunshine of My Life." Toward the end of this video, mandolinist David Grisman and his group join Grappelli, and the heat is turned up even more on "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Honeysuckle Rose." --- Scott Yanow, All Music Guide |
