Beatitudes was originally released as a seven-track LP on the New Note label, which was started by Bobby Watson and Curtis Lundy. When this recording was originally issued in 1983, they were the "Young Lions". Altoist Watson and bassist Lundy are joined by pianist Mulgrew Miller, and drummer Kenny Washington, who have also emerged as key players on the jazz scene. The CD contains three additional bonus tracks. Two previous Bobby Watson CDs have been reissued by Evidence - Jewel (ECD 22043) and Gumbo (ECD 22078).
