BLUE DRAG - "cross-dressing genre"
Blue Drag was formed in 1998 by foremost Australian jazz violinist Nigel MacLean. Their first album titled Relaxin' At The Camarillo was recorded using solar power in the bushlands of regional Victoria and received national airplay on ABC Radio. This latest album is a continuation of excellence from the Filmharmonix label and has stepped up the production values to include a smorgasbord of talent.
Composers, producers and performers, Nigel MacLean and Martin Elepans have created an inspiring collection of all original songs containing lush ballads seductively sung by Kate Ceberano and Chantal Mitvalsky and artfully accompanied on piano by Joe Chindamo with a 26 piece string orchestra led by Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster Wilma Smith. Adding their sound to the sophisticated arrangements are Dave Beck (drums), Frank Di Sario (bass), Russell Smith (trumpet), Tony Hicks (saxophones), Gerry Hale (manolin, cittern) and Richard Pleasance provides some programming. In all over 50 musicians contribute to this stylish CD! With international talents like David Hirschfelder accompanying operatic stars, Roger Lemke and Carmel Parente on a aria-esque track the music transports the listener through a film-like world of Django inspired big band arrangements and futuristic flavours. |
