This music retains the bite and edgy energy it had when it was first recorded forty years ago. Grachan Moncur's open-ended but rooted compositions give the band plenty of room to maneuver. He, McLean and Bobby Hutcherson solo brilliantly, urged on by the polyrhythmic swing of Roy Haynes.
